Cake Liberation Front Manchester Meet Up

Image
We had a Cake Liberation Front Manchester meet up this week and in the five years we've been doing it I have to say that I think it was one of my favourite meet ups so far! The format is that people bring vegan goodies to share. There's a emphasis on sweet baked goods but savoury and raw items are very welcome too.Once everyone arrives and the dishes are labelled and set out it's a big all you can eat buffet! Here's just a selection of the goodies we got to try. It's always good to see some classics alongside more experimental dishes and these chocolate and cherry brownies were absolutley melt in the mouth heaven! Apparently the secret was lots of melted chocolate alongside cocoa powder to make them extra chocolately. We had a good showing of raw and also gluten free dishes with raw cookies, gluten free fruity soda bread, gluten free strawberry cheesecake and this amazing raw and gluten free banofee pie. Sometimes you can't beat simple good quali...

Christmas Shopping - Get Your Bake On!

Do you love vegan baked goods? Are you looking for something a bit different for a Christmas present? Our Cake Liberation Front t-shirts are still available via the Philosophy Football website . You'll find them in the Dissenters section of the site and there are 4 different designs to choose from. They are great quality t-shirts that wash well and as an extra bonus our proceeds from each shirt go to Dr Hadwen Trust . There are also some wonderful limited edition really cute t-shirts for sale over at our friends Deerly Beloved Bakery. This highly successful vegan bakery is run by Kayleigh Baddeley-Read and was started in Norwich in 2011. The bakery has gone from strength to strength winning business awards and supplying lots of local businesses including Norwich University and Waterstones with vegan baked goods. You can even order some of their fab Christmas range by mail order. Check it out here .

If you're a regular reader of the blog you'll have heard me talk about Cake Liberation Front . The CLF was set up in Manchester in 2010 and since then cells and events have sprung up worldwide spreading as far as Adelaide in Australia! The CLF exists to get people interested in vegan cooking. You don't have to be vegan to come to meet ups, indeed lots of people aren't, but you do need to bring vegan food, sweet or savoury to share. We've never gone down the route of merchandise as CLF is not a business. There have been small amounts of badges and aprons sold each year but these have been merely to go towards the cost of the website. However, a few weeks ago I was contacted by a company called Philosophy Football to see if CLF would be interested in doing a t shirt partnership. After having a look at the sort of things they've done before including t shirts and events for campaigns like Hope Not Hate and The Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign we decid...

Just a quick plug for the next Cake Liberation Front meet up. It will be on Thursday 30 January from 6.30-8pm at V Revolution in Manchester. Bring along vegan baked goods to share, sweet or savoury. Non vegans are welcome too! There's a Facebook event for it here . I recommend eating a light salad for an early tea and then come on down and fill your boots!
