Summer Holiday

I've just got back from a week in London. I went down there with my friends Jan and Dave and their 4 year old and 7 month old and we stayed with old friends. Our week started with a bang when we got off the number 30 bus at Hackney Central and had riot police on one side of us and rioters on the other!

Despite the rioting we had a great week with picnics in Greenwich, boat trips down the Thames, goes on the London Eye, visits to the Natural History Museum, Museum of Childhood and Hackney City Farm. The cafe at the City Farm was vegan friendly and I had a fab lunch of grilled oyster mushrooms and tomatoes on soughdough followed by rich chocolate sorbet. I stayed an extra day and met my friends Deb and John who came down from Manchester yesterday and we went to see the Tracey Emin show at the Hayward.

The weather was gorgeous and after lunch we went for a mooch round Soho and sat in the sun drinking prosecco. It was also an excuse to visit one of my favourite shops - the Algerian Coffee Stores on Old Compton Street.

I went in to buy some loose leaf Earl Grey tea with blue flowers and also came out with the goodies below! Violet flavoured Turkish Delight, Spanish hot chocolate which comes in a hard slab and makes gorgeous really thick hot chocolate and a tube of French sweet chestnut spread which I love on toast and have never seen in a tube before!

We just managed to squeeze in a trip to VX before we got the train home. The week's been great but exhausting and my mysterious symptoms are playing up a bit. I've two days to recover though before back to work so it's lounging around watching films and munching on Ms Cupcake cakes until then!
