Down the Vegan Pub

Today a group of us got the train from Manchester over to Glossop to the Globe pub to celebrate our friend Vicki's 30th birthday. The Globe is a fantastic example of a business that is out there 'stealth' veganising. Everything on the food menu is vegan but they don't mention this and the tasty food at amazing value prices sucks the non vegans in too!

It was nice enough to sit out in the beer garden. The pub also boasts a microbrewery and a music venue upstairs and sometimes there's folk musicians playing downstairs in the pub too.

This dish is a big favourite with most people that go there. It's a 'steak' and mushroom in red wine gravy dish with handcut chips. The cost - just £3!

When I first started going a few years ago the only dessert option was some Swedish Glace but they are really expanding the menu. There was chocolate cake and tia maria mocha cake and a wide range of homemade ice creams. I had the hazelnut and caramel which tasted like rolos. The price - £2.50. So, with the train fare and a drink the whole afternoon comes in at just over a tenner. Highly recommended.

  2. I have a funny story about this place. I spend several weeks a year in Manchester as my boyfriend comes from there and we go visit his family. Anyway his friend invited around 15 of us to go to the Globe for her birthday. We all got the train there and got to the pub to find it shuts mondays! And as there isn't much else vegan friendly in glossop we had to settle for a packet of crisps until we got home Doh!

  3. Oh no, nightmare! Hope you get to go back when it's open. Beware though it only does food in the evenings except for Sundays when it's lunches as well.

  6. Oh my God, I NEED to go to this place! That 'steak' looks ridiculously nice, and what a bargain!! I love that they don't make a big deal about it being vegan, perfect place to trick meat eaters into admitting how good vegan food is, woo!
